It has been brought to my attention that there was a DoS attack against our website in an attempt to strain our underlying site infrastructure. After we have completed evaluating the incident internally, we are ready to push a public announcement regarding what had occurred.
Yesterday, on August 20th, 2024, our activity metrics recorded a spike in web traffic. There were approximately 8,000 requests that made it to the server, and around 72,000 total requests made. Most requests were blocked by our server.
One of the possible IP addresses used to conduct this attack was flagged by our security provider as a “browser integrity check”. After an evaluation, there was a stream of these logs in our firewall event logs. It is possible other IP addresses that made it through were not flagged.
We’d like to state that the site was not affected and is currently under normal operations. We believe this attack didn’t really strain our infrastructure much, but for precautionary measures the originating IP(s) have been blocked and the incident has been reported.
The site has not been compromised, and user accounts are secure.
